[
]

[10-1-2015] The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is advising consumers not to purchase or use Ultimate Herbal Slimcap, a product promoted and sold for weight loss on various websites, including www.fitfirmandfabulous.com. The Truth in Healthcare Marketing Act of 2015, introduced by Rep. Larry Bucshon (R-Ind.), and David Scott (D-Ga.), would charge the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) with launching a new effort aimed at identifying and documenting specific misleading or deceptive acts by health care providers.

"We're concerned with the negative impact this misguided and misleading legislation could have on our patients to access necessary care," said Anthony Hamm, DC, president of the American Chiropractic Association (ACA), a member of the PARCA coalition. "Rather than helping to ensure that patients receive accurate information about health care providers, this bill could potentially cause greater patient confusion by calling into question the skills and training of this nation's non-MD/DO health care professionals."

As noted in its letter, PARCA agrees that individuals who are not qualified and/or appropriately licensed or certified to provide health care services should not be permitted to serve patients. However, the coalition believes that patients benefit by having accurate information about, and greater access to, a wide range of health care services performed by the professionals educated, trained, and licensed or certified to perform those needed services. PARCA coalition members, who represent a group of 800,000 non-MD providers, believe the proposed legislation will restrict patient freedom to seek care from the provider of their choice, stifle competition in the health care marketplace, and result in increased costs for patients, health care providers and the federal government.

The PARCA coalition, led and originally founded by ACA, aims to provide federal policymakers with access to information from all areas of the health care community, in order to assist in the formulation of responsible, well-rounded health care policy. The diverse coalition includes groups such as the American Association of Nurse Practitioners, the American Academy of Audiology, and the American Optometric Association. What Chiropractors do - 25 Sep 2015 01:15

Tags:

[
]Category: Recent Posts | Permalink

Published: Monday, January 25, 2010

I often get asked, "What do chiropractors really do?" Most people think we are back and neck pain doctors. We do some weird cracking of the back and people feel better, or their headaches miraculously disappear. The simple truth is that chiropractic since its inception in 1895 is based on four simple concepts.

1. The body is a self healing mechanism. In other words, your body knows how to heal. If you cut your finger, clean the wound and put a bandage on it the bandage will magically heal the cut. Right? No of course not your cut is going to heal with or without the bandage. Your body can heal itself.

2. Your brain and nervous system controls how everything in your body works. This means healing is controlled by your nervous system as well as the function of every cell, tissue and organ in your body. The master controller, the brain, communicates to every thing in our bodythrough our nerves. What would happen if there is interference with this communication?

3. Interference with the brains communication with the rest of the body will compromise your health. It is impossible for your body to function at 100% if there is interference between the brain and the rest of the body. Every nerve in our body travels through the spine at some level. If the spine is out of normal position and not moving correctly it can interfere with these communication signals. We call this a subluxation.

4. Removing the interferencerestores the bodies functions by normalizing the brains communication with the rest of the body. That is what we do as chiropractors. We are the only profession trained in the detection and correction of subluxations. There are other professions that may manipulate the joints but mobilizing the joints is not the same as adjusting to correct the interference created by the subluxation.

Chiropractic has many techniques to detect and correct subluxations and thereby getting rid of pain and restoring function. KST is one of the gentlest and most effective that I have found.

You live your life through your nervous system. It is the master system and controller of your body. Read more about understanding Vertebral Subluxation.

http://www.californiaoakschiropractic.com/blogpost-18280/What-Chiropractors-Do-To-Keep-You-Healthy-And-Pain-Free.html

[

Terry Robinson, Chiropractor and Fitness Trainer to the Stars, Dies at 98 - 24 Sep 2015 23:48

Tags:

[
]Terry Robinson arrived in Hollywood in 1948 with a fortuitous portfolio. A competitive bodybuilder, licensed chiropractor and professed physical therapist, he specialized in treating muscle tension and neck pain ailments that were increasing in Hollywood during a difficult decade.

Box office receipts were declining steeply as television caught on. Film industry figures had became targets of witch hunts for Communists. And the studio system was in its last days.

It was in the form of a terrible headache and a stiff neck that Mr. Robinson got his big break. The pain belonged to one of the most powerful men in the business, Louis B. Mayer, the MGM studio chief. The musclebound Mr. Robinson treated him successfully in 1948 for what he described as spasmodic torticollis, and a grateful Mayer put him on the MGM payroll.

Mayer fell victim to the industrys woes and MGMs in-house intrigues in 1951. But Mr. Robinson, who died on May 19, at 98, at his home in West Los Angeles, stayed on for years as the studios in-house chiropractor and fitness trainer to Clark Gable, Tyrone Power, Spencer Tracy, Robert Taylor, George C. Scott, Glenn Ford and others.

The Lord must have been looking down that day, Mr. Robinson said, recalling working on Mayers neck. When I touched him, he popped into place, he was quoted as saying in Remembering Muscle Beach, a 1999 memoir by the bodybuilder Harold Zinkin.

Mr. Robinsons most enduring movie client was the opera star Mario Lanza, whom Mayer signed to a seven-year contract in 1947. Mr. Robinson, ordered to help Mr. Lanza lose 25 pounds for his debut as a movie star in That Midnight Kiss (1949), became his close friend, traveling companion and movie stand-in for a decade.

Keeping Mr. Lanza fit was not easy. A binge eater and heavy drinker, he was nearly 50 pounds overweight before filming began for The Great Caruso, (1951). Robinson had fixed him up with a fitness routine jogging, throwing weights, push-ups, more jogging which began at 5 a.m., David Bret wrote in the biography Mario Lanza: Sublime Serenade (2009). Mario said they were the toughest weeks of his life.

When Mr. Lanza died in October 1959 and his wife, Betty, died six months later, Mr. Robinson became a legal co-guardian to their four children and moved into the familys Hollywood home to help raise them.

Mr. Robinson was born in Brooklyn on March 9, 1916. He said his father, an ex-boxer and prizefighting judge, introduced him early to the pleasures of physical training. He found weight-training especially helpful in overcoming the physical and psychological barriers he felt as a young, 5-foot-6 athlete.

At 18, he won a Golden Gloves amateur featherweight boxing title.

He briefly attended Columbia College on an athletic scholarship, but his interest in bodybuilding and rehabilitation therapy led him to he transfer to the New York Chiropractic College. He graduated shortly before World War II began. As a Marine, he taught hand-to-hand combat to troops heading to the Pacific.

After the war, working as a chiropractor by day and body building by night, Mr. Robinson became a star of a pursuit that was taking hold in New York, when Charles Atlas and Dan Lurie were among the more famous names.

He won a Mr. New York City bodybuilding title in 1948, shortly before leaving for California.

His survivors include his wife, Silvia Richard Robinson; a daughter from a previous marriage, Madelyn Appel; three grandchildren; and Ellisa Lanza Bregman, the last surviving child of the Lanzas.

His death was confirmed by a spokesman for Sports Club/LA, a gym where Mr. Robinson worked as a fitness coach and greeter. Until he was 95, he was there when the doors opened at 5 a.m., and he fit a workout into his daily routine: One hour with the weights, he told an interviewer, then swim for a half-hour. Then I pray.

http://www.nytimes.com/2014/06/01/nyregion/terry-robinson-chiropractor-and-fitness-trainer-to-the-stars-dies-at-98.html?partner=rssnyt&emc=rss

[

So many people have had perhaps some form of distressing experience with low back pain, regardless of whether it was a one time occurrence. Various industries are hit hard on an annual time frame with disability and time lost on account of this problem. In the US, only the well-known headache ranks higher for problems relating to the nervous system. It is common knowledge that low back pain can be something quite short-term chiropractor arizona finder or produce more serious and chronic problems.

The standard situation with low back pain includes a number of factors each of which make their particular contribution. Low back pain can be brought on by disc ruptures, situations concerned with using back muscles too much plus many other problems. One likely condition proposed by some doctors is a chronic imbalance in the lower back. The frequent result is that the back is unable to take it anymore, and then problems begin to surface. We have all heard about, or maybe experienced, back injuries brought on by the smallest motions.

The types of low back problems can vary according to the person and characteristics of injury. A large number of of us have felt acute pain somewhere, and that is the variety that occurs out of nowhere. Then there is the low grade variety that comes about slowly and may be recurring. The acute type of back pain tends to happen all of a sudden from physical shock. These can be serious as this means a condition in which there is actual damage, typically. The general symptoms for this kind of pain can be a piercing painful sensation that really gets your notice. Sometimes the condition will keep the person from moving normally such as bending over or standing straight. Or perhaps, you can occasionally see people bending somewhat forward to help minimize the pain.

Herniated discs in the spine are common and typically caused by repeated motions or those kinds that require chronic mechanical vibration. Still, if a person places a very heavy demand on the back muscles, then http://www.nytimes.com/health/guides/symptoms/back-pain-low/overview.html that can also result in this condition. Very often people are not prepared for these types of shocks to the system, and also many people are not in the habit of stretching their back and leg muscles. Further acute suffering can be triggered when that disc all of a sudden places pressure on nerves.

If you are engaged in an activity that leads to sharp pain, then the sensible thing to do is see a qualified doctor. Keep away from doing anything that can irritate the condition. Regardless of what you are moving, or how you are using your back, there are certain lifting postures that you must use all the time.

[
